"Controversial" is a shield for bigots

If you have been following the hateful assault on Dylan Mulvaney, you may have noticed the overuse of a particular term in the media.

Trans Positive Feminist Witchy Podcasts

Navigating the world of Witchcraft as a Solitary Secular Witch is daunting enough, but as a Solitary Secular trans Witch, it's a scary world!

It's not a "culture war"

I really do hate that term. The assault on trans people, especially trans kids, by right wing hate isn't a culture war, it's fascism and we need to call it what it is.

This felt inevitable

So, on December 4th, the National Post front page had a story lede that claimed a 16 year old girl transitioned after two quick doctor's appointments and then regretted it.

Shaming men with transphobia and misogyny

I've seen this countless times in my life, I can't even tell you how often any more. It's been a constant presence in my life as far as I can remember: the notion that you can shame men using imagery of them as a women and girls.

Isn't that a shame? Well, anyways...

It seems like a neverending stream of hate is directed towards us in the LGBTQ+ community and time and again we're told that it's just a fringe, that the majority supports us. Where is that majority? They feel very absent to me.

With allies like these...

It is often revealing to watch the ebb and flow of Twitter, you can learn a lot about the ugly side of humanity on the site as bigotry runs rampant, but you can also see the many allies that are stepping up. However, there are some disconcerting trends with allies too...

One strike is enough

I have a firm rule about where I put my money when it comes to online services: I have no tolerance for bigotry. I simply won't fund it.

Deeds, not words

So, Twitter posted a trans supportive message the other day and it is getting dragged pretty heavily. It should be, they should be embarrassed to post that.

It's never too late

The other day, the question got asked on Twitter: " Did anyone else find the Monty Python's Lumberjack song..... problematic?" The question got me thinking about media, trans representation, and what it was like as a child of the 70s and being trans.

Don't feed the trolls

Echoing Voices

Was thinking about social media today... notably Twitter and how it amplifies certain voices well beyond their true reach.

The Toronto Star should be better than this

On December 6th, the Toronto Star published an article, Defending human rights the goal of journalism , and in it they claim to fight for a world with equal rights and equal dignity, then it begs why they would then laud giving a voice to hate...

Marvel's Hero Project

Marvel has released their first comic featuring a transgender hero, Rebekah, as a part of their Hero project featuring everyday people making a real difference.

On a lighter note - I still don't like socks with sandals

I follow a few fashion houses, including the likes of Ted Baker, Kate Spade, and Maison Simons ( a really great Canadian company). Recently, I'm seeing a spike in their photography depicting models in really beautiful clothing wearing various forms of sandals with socks. Sigh.

Gender Reveal Parties

What a curious notion, the gender reveal party ...

Wish I was in London for this...

Sébastien Lifshitz has been scouring the world for old photographs, building a pictorial history of cross-dressing from an incredible collection that spans more than 100 years of work. This collection will be on display at London's Photographers Gallery and I would love to be there to see them. For more details, see this article on huck .

Not Quite so Black and White

Blue is for boys, pink is for girls. He has a penis, she has a vagina. It's simple: it's all black and white really, your gender fits your bits. Or so they like to tell us. You see, that's the science they're wont to tell you and it's real easy to grasp. Yeah, sure, easy for them to say. However, science (the real kind) isn't backing them up on this, these days. Oh no, you see, it's not quite so black and white after all. As The Slate so aptly put it: Sex is Complicated .
