Being Me

I see a lot of blog posts that have something to the effect of "I saw a trans person from afar" or similar and I have to say, I find it troubling.

Bigots went into a tizzy over Bud Light and Dylan Mulvaney and they haven't stopped there. These whiners about "cancel culture" can't stop trying to cancel.

Recently, I attended the Out & Equal conference virtually. There was a great deal of conversation and valuable insights into the world of D&I as it pertains to the 2SLGBTQ+ community. However, what continues to stand out to me is a failure to grasp that one cannot be included inside when they are excluded outside.

I have reached a breaking point on the toxicity of that site and I had to leave.

We've seen this many times, somebody says or does something that is racist, homophobic, transphobic, or anti-semetic in some way and the truth of that gets pointed out to them. However, rather than apologizing and learning from it, they double down in defense with "I have a ... friend" defense.

  Today is "National Coming Out Day" to support LGBTQ+ people in coming out of the closet and celebrating their true selves with friends and family. It is the ideal, that it is a celebration, but that this day exists says we have much to do still.

Dance like nobody is watching... That's basically advice around what may be your comfort zone and anxiety talking, so how do you dance like nobody is watching when they are, in fact, watching?

Sometimes the best way to address your doubts and fears to get back on the horse and try again. So I did. 😍

Doubts, fears, concerns, worries... we all have them. Sometimes they paralyze you, sometimes they don't. Today, I let them stop me. 😥

Do you think about passing? Do you care if you pass? What does it mean when we ask if we pass? Does it matter? Tough questions...

On Stana's Femulate blog , today, she linked a photo of Oslo Grace who, as a gender fluid model, models both men's and women's wear. As usual, it has me thinking and, truth be told, again a little envious!

Back in 2017, the Canadian government announced that it would allow a third option for gender on the passport which, basically, is an X for unspecified. Fairly recently, US airlines have started to allow for two additional options when buying tickets: unspecified and unidentified. Canadian airlines are pending guidance from the federal government before they proceed. All of which leads to me to ask, why is gender even on either? The prevailing argument I have heard is about identity confirmation, but I'm not really buying that. My passport has an "M" designation, but there is no law that specifies that I can't travel dressed and appearing very androgynous or feminine as long as the photo and I match up, at least within and between countries that don't kill transgender people. Jessica is a professional women's hockey player, playing for the Toronto Furies and, now, she's the first openly transgender woman playing professional sports. I'm seeing more and more of these stories every day as people shake of their fears of rejection and bring their whole selves to the front.   The other thing I really like about this story is that she's playing hockey. How Canadian! I'm also really happy to see that the CWHL and her teammates are very supportive of her journey and I hope this will be another journey that helps to show that the trans experience is a human one. How did she come out? Well, it's quintessentially modern...
