I will survive

Gloria Gaynor washing her hands to "I will Survive" just popped up on Twitter yesterday and I was reminded again just how much I love her voice and this song.

Aside from just how well this song has held up, my mind interprets this song from the angle of gender dysphoria quite a bit and as I really start to unlock my own gender journey, it resonates with me a great deal.

I identify as... Stop! It's what I am.

The expression "identifies as" gets used a lot when talking about trans and non-binary people. It's also used by a lot of bigots to denigrate the trans experience. It's an expression that I would like to see fade away.

What does dysphoria feel like to me?

This question made the rounds on Twitter recently and it's a powerful and deeply interesting one I think. However, before I dive into how it feels for me, I want to be clear: dysphoria is not a requirement for being trans.

It's not polite when you get it wrong

I've talked about voice issues before, for many of us in the trans community it remains a major source of frustration and irritation. This is especially true on the phone.
